soccorea

I am wrong. Wrong about how soccer isn't such a big sport here. Apparently, Canadians do get interested in soccer, though still not as much as ice hockey. I was out at Koreatown for lunch. Can't take no dinner. Anyway, everyone seemed to be in the World Cup mood..

1) Many Korean shops had promoters at make-shift stalls selling red t-shirts with the word 'Corea' on the them. Did some research: South Korea's soccer fan club is the Red Devils and Korea was originally spelt with a 'C'.

2) After banking, I saw a child wearing a World Cup shirt in support of Portugal.

3) Then, I saw a car flying the flag of Italy and.. France, I think.

4) After the meal while walking pass stores, crossed pubs with World Cup viewing promotions and flags and banners, that were at the same time filled with people tuning in to the match (Poland VS Ecuador).

5) Finally on my way home, there was a man on the subway holding a printed piece of paper showing the list of World Cup matches.

Then did I realize.. Despite soccer not being B-I-G here, there is still the importance. There are so many immigrants of different ethnic and nationality backgrounds here; they will make up the percentage of soccer fanatics in Canada. So perhaps soccer is a big sport here in it's own way..
