taegukgi
i know i should be sleeping at this late hour instead of blogging, but i just cannot wait for tomorrow. i just watched the 2004 korean box-office movie, Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War.

and OMG, it has to be one of the BEST films i have ever watched. i have heard of it before, but didn't really bother about it as i don't really enjoy watching war movies. however, somehow i did watch it with my housemates and i'm SO glad i did. even with all the distractions (ie house visitors, computer loading problems) that were present when watching the dvd; and yet being able to draw me into the whole film, this movie (director, cast, crew and story, etc) shows its brilliance. it's definitely oscar-hollywood material, no could be way ahead and even better.
the movie is written about 2 brothers torn between the destruction of the korean war in 1950. jang dong-gun (all about eve) and won bin (autumn tale) are the brothers, and they give top-notch performances.
all the settings and the war-effects are so realistic. the blood, gore, killings, violence, deaths, and destruction show the downside of war. and within all these brutal scenes, there were tender, and also depressing, heart-wrenching moments. scenes that gave spine-tingly effects, scenes that bog the brain down with so many thoughts, confuse the heart with so many emotions..
me and my housemates who watched the show cried and bawled our eyes out. we blew our noses into the already wet tissues. i was having a bad migraine earlier on. after the movie, my migraine came back. my eyes and nose were red. i felt dizzy..

Tae Guk Gi is just flawlessly superb. one can/will see the brutality of war through this film. at least i did. i don't know what else to say, except: please do find a way to watch it. how can anyone miss such a classic?
