disabilities

i came across two situations involving disabilities today:

1) in psychology class, we watched meaningful videos about autism, asperger's syndrome, and tourette's syndrome. it shed light on the woes of such mental disorders. patients with autism and asperger syndrome seldom socialize, and are visual thinkers, with some unusual behaviours and language difficulties. tourette's syndrome causes one to have uncontrollable outbursts of movements or vocalizations. when watching this video, i felt uncomfortable. imagine being born with all the inconveniences that will bring on constant stares and ridicule from the ignorant public. one of my friend found it amusing, and i was irritated by such lack of understanding.

2) during my break, i was sitting at the science wing. a man left a piece of folded paper with printed words and images. i will try to get a picture of it up. anyway, it read..
These cards have been printed for the purpose of assisting me, a Deaf person, in making a living. Will you kindly buy one? With it you may acquaint yourself with the deaf people. Pay ANY price you wish. THANK YOU!
i wriggled out all the coins i had, which valued around 40-cents. without even looking at the amount, the man looked at me with much gratitude and signed out 'thank you' with his hands.

my whole point of it is: i'm just thankful to be here with such blessings..
