concluding days
december 30
went to christina's place for a nice lovely dinner. MENU [caesar's salad, bean soup, pasta, and chicken breast]. yum. then watched a korean movie, my boyfriend is type B. it's hilarious, but not so much as my sassy girl (which also was touching/cryable). took some pictures. to come soon..
december 31
woke up around noon as we slept late. initially wanted to go for dimsum, but decided not to. later in the day, went to get some groceries for tomorrow's brunch (sausages, bacon, pancakes, etc). and now we are going to have dinner. MENU [tofu soup, sweet & sour fish, spare ribs, and vegetables]. i realized i have been blogging only about food, eh?
and so a year went by.. happy 2006!

there yet?
went to first markham place just now in a car with a few others. there wasn't much to do except walk around and have dinner there.
we met up at north york center, and made our way to markham. we drove east along finch, and wanted to go to woodbine. the funny thing was finch doesn't directly intersect woodbine. we kept on going east until we were close to outside of the GTA (greater toronto area).
we headed west, this time knowing we have to get on highway 7 and then get on woodbine to reach the place. we kept going north. it started to feel funny when we were surrounded by large land, sparse housing, farms and little cars. when we saw a sign welcoming us to a different town, we realized we have overshot highway 7 again.
we turned around and finally found the right route. in the end, we reached our destination around an hour later from the time we left north york center. it was getting dark and we were joking that all the stores would be closing when we arrived.
thankfully most didn't. so we walked around, then had dinner. we had a 3-course dinner for about $15 each. the food wasn't bad. but the service was irritating. they were rushing for us to leave. and we had to wait so long for them to bring the change. i guess they thought that the change would be for tips, but usually the change would be provided, then it would be up to us to take (meaning no tips for them) or leave it.
we went into the mall. it's more of a chinese mall, with the herbal stores and vcd shops (all pirated). we went into one to look. some of us were like pretending the store was raided by police and reporters when we were flipping through the packaged pirated vcds, and we had to hide and cover our faces behind our hands and hoods.
when we wanted to buy 2 korean vcds, we asked her in english if she could try it for us to see if there are english subtitles. that lady pretended not to speak english (when i definitely heard her speak to some westerners not long before). then we asked if we could exchange it if there are problems, and she was like "no, only english vcds". i was telling my housemate "dia tipu" (she's lying). so we left. what a lying biatch. well we bought the same 2 vcds in another store.
we left as many stores were closing. the drive home was fast and easy. we should have taken that route there. blah. anyway, tomorrow we will be going for dinner at christina's house and watch one of the korean vcd. and i have to do laundry before that..

overdue
i finally had a haircut!
woke up around noon, had my lunch and went to pacific mall ALONE. and what's worse is that pacific mall is a chinese mall that is far away from where i live. i haven't went there myself yet, so i was worried i would miss the bus-stop that i'm supposed to alight and get a transit. well i manage to reach the mall and go back home safely, without any mistakes.
i went to the salon for my haircut. surprisingly, there wasn't many people, which i thought there would be since it is still kind of a holiday. my hair was washed twice (one before the cut, and one after). the first wash, shampoo was used a total of 3 times! my god, i nearly fell asleep in that slightly inclined chair, with warm water flowing through my hair.
as my hair was being cut, i was kind of worried it wouldn't turn out the way i hope it will. but after the second hair wash, blow-dry and final touches, i was satisfied. my head feels so light now! i prefer haircuts by chinese hairdressers. they always know how to cut to suit one's style and face. unlike westerners, who always make my hair so short, and erm, the opposite of everything nice.
then i went to get a stick of curry fishball, and stood at a side as i ate. went around the shops. i saw a coat/hoodie, but it tagged at a price of $168 as it's imported from south korea. woa! the lady was giving me a price of $130. still woa! i left, and didn't return. i would 99% have bought it if she accepted my $100 offer. i went to other stores, but nothing really caught my eye.
one thing about shopping in asian/chinese places is that you never know if the items are fakes or if the prices are tagged high, so by the time they give discounts, they still earn alot.
i went back to don mills, and visited fairview mall, again. once again, i got nothing. so i came home. i helped roll 'tang yuan' balls! we added colours: blue, green, yellow and brown (from chocolate powder). red would have been nice, but we ran out of that colouring.
i know, the festival where we have 'tang yuan' (what's that called again?) was supposed to be on the december 22. but we just survived the exam period then. yippy, for we are going to have 'tang yuan' dessert!
got my long overdue haircut and made the overdue 'tang yuan'. hooray for free time! hooray for the holidays!

korean-o
today was more of a different story. again i woke up late; as in afternoon late. chatted with my sister, and then watched cheaper by the dozen a second time within a week, this time with my brother as we had lunch.
in the evening, i went out with the rest of the house (my brother decided to stay home) to finch for a korean dinner. it was good. we ordered this hotpot thingy with octopus, beef and udon noodles in soup, and also a side order of jap chae. then walked south to north york center and visited loblaws, etc.
it must have been the increasing korean craze in the house and the korean dinner that led us to all start trying to speak korean. the thing is, i only know a few common korean words. so i'm going to search the web for free online tutorials for learning korean! (:
for now, i want to shop for the coming chinese new year (it's on january 29 i think), have a haircut (my hair is terribly long and hard to manage as you all can see in the recent pictures) and enjoy the remaining few days of my holidays. most importantly, the new year is coming! woohoo!

boxing day
yea, happy boxing day! well, belated. anyway, yesterday i woke up late in the morning, and started our little hotplate lunch from the leftover ingredients of the christmas dinner. had our fill and then we headed over to fairview mall for our boxing day shopping bonanza.
during every boxing day, shops will have massive sales, especially electronic items. the mall was packed (every shopping center would be). shopaholics rummaging through piles and racks of discounted items. i manage to get a bubble black vest at half the usual price. it was still pricey but i like it.
went home and played computer games. my housemates cooked an indonesian noodle for dinner. after that, played cards for a while and that was practically the end of the day.

through christmas
once again, this is meant to be a 'christmas' post. i'm behind in my blogging as i wait for the pictures to be sent to me, and also because i'm having late nights. holidays mean late nights and waking up late in the day, but for me it's true for the former, and not the latter.
we woke up to a not-too-cold christmas morning. prepared and waited for the host of the hotpot dinner to come drive us to her house, since we brought our electric griddle and some other stuffs. when we reached the place, we helped with some preparation like wrapping wantons and setting the table, as we watched the tellie.
i was kind of irritated before the dinner started. i was already hungry, but had to wait for some of our host's other guests. it was so cramp as we fit 13 people into one dining table (4&5 on each length, and 2 at each ends, and i was sitting at the 5 people side). all i can say is that i ate whatever i could eat from the hotpot and bbq. then, before cleaning up, we chatted and took some pictures of the group..

wanting to bite nora's finger as hungry us wait for the food.

all perked up, presenting the preparation.

the group after the dinner.

me smiling widely with my full stomach.

me, my brother and nora.
desserts included cheesecake, chocolate and DURIAN ICE-CREAM made by the host. yum! i miss the strong pungent smell/taste of the actual durian flesh, and durian ice-cream. tasted SO good. durian is indeed the 'King of Fruits'.
me, my brother, nora and kusuma started playing charades with the magnetic doodle board. we used 'movies' as the category and drew corresponding images as we tried to guess the title. it was funny seeing the drawings, especially kusuma's interpretation of 'crouching tiger hidden dragon'. LOL.
and then it started to snow quite heavily. perfect- truly a snowy white christmas. we wanted to have a snow-fight, but it was wet snow so we couldn't. we did go out for some pictures though. we didn't wear our coats out. i felt the wet snow falling on my clothes and then slowly melting away. the road was empty, so that became our photoshoot venue.

joyous freedom under the falling snow.

me, my brother, nora and juyenty.

close-up of us.
we left in the cars of the host and another of her guest. and after showering, i spent my time typing this blog (yes, i am writing it in the past tense now), so i can just add the pictures later on and publish it all at once. the next thing i did (i will do) is sleep, or maybe watch an anime episode.
so this was how my first christmas in toronto went. my first white snowy christmas in canada.. (:

through christmas (eve)
this is meant to be a 'christmas-eve' post, but somehow the little christmas party we had lasted till the early hours of christmas day. so MERRY CHRISTMAS!
christmas eve for me started with an early rise from bed to go to fairview mall. i had to go early as i knew that it would be crowded with last-minute shoppers (like me). bought a pair of jeans and a long-sleeve t-shirt. then headed home.
spent the hours watching japanese anime and also cheaper by the dozen. though the show is kind of a tacky family movie, i have to say it isn't bad. at least it managed to made me shed tears (of both joy and sadness) with their heart-warming family moments.
after that, i helped my two housemates, juyenty and nora, prepare for the christmas-eve dinner. the head chef was juyenty, and me and nora were assistants. hehehe.. i set the cutlery on the dining table, and nora folded napkins and placed them on the styrofoam plates with a ferrero rocher on top each set. also helped with cutting, chopping, washing.. our guests arrived as we hurried in our final preparations. then we went to change into something nicer and less kitchen-smelling clothes.
the menu
1) appetizer
- bruschetta (italian bread with chopped tomato toppings)
- garlic bread (with bits of sausages)
- wine (to last till main course)
2) main course
- beef steaks and salmon (with mushroom gravy)
- spaghetti (with tomato-puree)
- vegetable mix (consisting of jukini, mushrooms and capsicums)
3) dessert
- chocolate torte (made by christina, one of our guests)
- coffee/tea
the wine tasted like beer. the food was tasty, but a little salty the more we ate. the chocolate torte was nice. overall it was a wonderful dinner. had laughs and good conversations. and we took pictures!

did i mention me and nora made a paper christmas tree with presents included on the day before the day before christmas (aka december 23)?

me with my shared masterpiece.

sweelay, me and nora promoting the new 'paper christmas tree'. ;p

me and juyenty trying to position the christmas wreath made by my brother and nora during last year's christmas (which was then hund on the lights above the dining table), and re-decorated on friday with a red ribbon by nora to hang outside the door.

the dining table.

the dining table WITH FOOD! our appetizers: garlic bread (left) and bruschetta.

me, my brother, nora and sweelay...

now with juyenty..

and now without nora, but with christina and nick.

cheers to christmas!

waiting to dig into our main course.

christina's chocolate torte dessert with almonds. yum!
we settled down to watch a thai horror movie, shutter. me, my brother and juyenty watched it at christina's house some time back.. got bored so some of us went to watch pck on vcd. so nice hearing singlish again. lol. but after some loading problems in the second disc, we gave up on it.
after the horror movie finished, our guests left. that was when the people of the house started going crazy. we set the timer for the digital camera and took many funny pictures..

being happy.

being happy, acting cute.

acting cute.

erm.. cannot think of a proper caption.

we kungfu kick butt!

the craziness wears off...
played card games like 'heart attack' and 'daidee', with penalties! dissolved powder solution smeared onto the face of the loser. and yea, i got the most-decorated face award.

(continued) but not for long! powdered, patterned, saddened faces.
finally, we retired to our rooms. watched some shows before tucking myself to bed. so this was how i spend my first christmas eve here. some crazy fun i had..

Christmas carols anyone?
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Batman smells
Robin laid an egg
The Batmobile lost a wheel
And Joker got away..
Deck The Halls
Deck the halls with gasoline
fa la la la la la la la la
Strike a match and watch it gleam
fa la la la la la la la la
Watch the school burn down to ashes
fa la la la la la la la la
Aren't you glad you played with matches?
fa la la la la la la la la...
Joy To The World
Joy to the world, my teachers dead
We bar-b-qued her head
Don't worry about the body
We flushed it down the potty
Round and round it goes
Round and round it goes
Round and round
And round and round
And round it goes...

geisha
Memoirs of a Geisha: visually stunning!

opening day of memoirs of a geisha, and we hurriedly went to watch it. we thought it would be hard to get tickets for any shows since today is the day before the day before christmas. surprisingly, we managed to get the 6.30pm show at sheppard's cineplex odeon.
okay, but before all that, i was at home spring-cleaning with my housemates! believe it? that's super weird. it's not even close to chinese new year, but we decided to clean the house. it probably had something to do with our dinner party tomorrow! well anyway, we cleaned the kitchen, washed the toilet, vacuumed the carpets..
then left with my brother and nora to sheppard. had an early korean dinner. we tipped a little less than usual, so we hurried out. i know we are blacklisted (especially since we asked for extra appetizers), but we swore never to go back there since the food isn't all that great. walked a short distance to get bubble-tea and smuggled the drinks into the cinemas hiding it in bags.
memoirs of a geisha had it's low and many high points. it started off shaky but somewhere one-third into the show, it picked up. that's the part where chiyo/sayuri (zhang ziyi) gets under the tutelage of mameha (michelle yeoh), and gets the training to become a true geisha.
zhang ziyi, michelle yeoh and gong li gives awesome performances. especially gong li, as the evil hatsumomo who loses everything (well nearly) to the popular newcomer geisha, sayuri. mameha said, "we do not become geishas to pursue our destiny", but that was what sayuri did.
i love all the visuals of the show. it's so colourful and.. asian? maybe that's the thing that made me pause halfway, and think "hey, this is a hollywood movie?". somehow it felt so weird to see asian stars on the big screen in a western world. there was this part: "americans are bastards". imagine the reaction of americans watching it. lol!
the movie was more of a touching romantic one that teaches the culture of geisha. which succeeds in doing so. it's just a different feel from the usual hollywood films. generally, I LOVE IT!

nearly oscar-nominated
nearly a Singaporean-made Oscar-nominated film.
highlight below to read my comments after reading the article..
being made in a foreign country apart from usa's hollywood makes it a foreign film by nature. not because of the language it is in. if they want to talk in terms of language, then yea, english isn't a foreign language. but singlish is. ;p

another day closer to christmas!
we headed downtown today for lunch with my housemates and others. it is getting more windy each day. my hair was flying all over the place. i really need a haircut. anyway, went to this place that had a thai buffet. my god, it was packed. but we managed to get a table and dug in at once. they served pad thai, fried rice, beef curry, tom yam soup, seafood and veggie, chicken wings and springrolls (which are their specialities or something). overall it was good. love the pad thai and beef curry. and best of all it was cheap- around CA$12. we got a free treat, so we just paid the tips of around five bucks per person.
went home and just watched some shows. then despite being tired, me and my housemate went to get groceries for our christmas eve dinner. yea, we are going to have beef steaks served with mushroom sauce and pasta.
and now i have to cook noodles for dinner as i'm too lazy to cook dishes to eat with rice. then i guess i will watch some shows again. i hope i go out tomorrow.

jukebox
and welcome a new addition to my blog: radio blog!
enjoy the music! 'ZAP' it to browse through the song list..
PS ok i admit. this was prepared during the havoc days of my exams. i told you, i couldn't focus! oh, and i had a terribly hard time narrowing down the list of songs. especially from all american rejects, the perishers and the corrs!

resurrected
i'm finally back from my not-so week long hiatus. the exams were brutal, especially with the festive season so near. what else can i say?
day 1 (13 dec)
chemistry was my first exam and it turned out easier than expected. but as usual, i dare not make any
predictions as for my midterm, though i found it easy, i did okay but not as well as i thought i would.
then, i was so sure my heart stopped pumping when i was sitting through my statistics exam. i think i can seriously flunk it. i hate it when MCQs have answers like 'I is correct', 'I and II are correct', blah blah. it sucks if you know one is definitely correct, but ain't too sure about another, and end up choosing making the wrong final answer.
day 2 (14 dec)
i rushed into the gym panicking. thankfully i wasn't the only one, but was the minority- a group of people coming late for the exam. it wasn't our fault; it snowed relatively badly the previous night, so buses were delayed. once the doors opened, i saw people running out of the bus into the gym (including me). it was hilarious, yet solemnly serious. people were already sitted at their desks waiting for us.
thankfully, the invigilators sort of knew this was coming. so we started half an hour later from the set time. but i was disorientated, since i had to catch my breath, and had no time for a quick recap. nevertheless, i'm hoping i did fine.
day 3 (16 dec)
i made sure i left house early to be at the examination venue on time. other than that, i don't really know how to describe the psychology exam itself.
day 4 (21 dec)
this is the one where i got so sick of the exam. having to spend the weekends so close to christmas in a house filled with people who finished their exams the last week, really sucks. having to write short answers for geography was more of a bullshit thing i suppose. but i really got stumped at certain questions.
it was kind of a bad day today overall. first, the geography exam. second, some bitch borrowed my pen and didn't return it. i know i should calm down, but that pen has sentimental value. i don't really know her well and i don't think i would see her anytime soon. even if i do see her, it's weird striking a conversation with "hey, you took my pen", right?
third, i was supposed to go to yorkdale mall with jessica to catch a movie and shop. i left the exam kind of early, so i waited outside the gym. i waited, and waited.. i had a feeling she may have left or didn't come. i wanted to call her, but realized i didn't have her number. in the end, i just went home after half an hour of waiting. then, i found out that jessica didn't even turn up for the exam as she was down with a high fever due to some viral infection or something. this sucks for her: she now has to petition for the school administrative board to allow her to take a make-up exam, otherwise..
so i came home, made some noodles and ate in front of the tv. and i watched 'E.T.'! OMG, it is one of my most favourite movies. i mean, i watched it a long time ago when i was young, so it had some kind of impact on me i suppose. this time, i watched the 20th anniversary edition, with restored scences, etc.. drew barrymore is so cute in the show. made me laugh. and the show made my had tears in my eyes too, again! the show is just classic film. "E.T. phone home". aaaawww..
anyway i'm glad the exams are over. time to relax and just have fun since christmas is here, with SNOW! i will enjoy myself watching animes, shopping and catching movies! weeee!!! (:

exam-leave
prepping myself up for the 2 exams i have tomorrow. i want to say i'm prepared, but i can't because i don't feel that way. looks like tonight will be a long night. so will tomorrow.. anyway going on a hiatus up till next wednesday when my exams end. (cue: drifting mind) then it will be christmas and holidays!!! yippy! (cue: back to reality) but wait, i have to focus. so much for saying it now when my exams are here.
oh, and today the city of toronto got her first 'cold weather' alert. even though it isn't officially winter till next week or so, current temperatures stand at -15 degrees celsius, AND plus the wind chill, it feels like -20 degrees outside. what a good way to kick off my exams eh? bummerrr..
so yes. wish me luck. till next week, miss me, blog world! (:

st.what ?
okay so here i am at home, when i could have been somewhere downtown now eating dinner at a chinese/thai restaurant or watching a movie (the chronicles of narnia?).. just because i mixed up the meeting place. damn..
so i was told to meet my brother and a friend at st.patrick subway station at 5pm. before leaving the house, i told my friend that i would be late as i was going to eaton centre to return the sweater and woollen hat i bought sometime back. eaton and urban outfitters were packed with people shopping. everyone is in the christmas mood. i want to shop too, but will do it after my exams.
back to the main topic. well anyway, i left urban outfitters at 5pm and somehow i reminded myself that i was supposed to meet the other at st.george subway station. so i hurried and reached there at 5.15pm. waited for around half an hour, walking around the subway vicinity, hoping to find the others. as i desperately dialed my brother's cell, the chill was making my fingers and ears go numb.. i thought they left without me.
in the end, i decided to go home myself. i was at fairview mall to buy my dinner when finally my phone rang. "i'm at fairview mall. i went home first. i waited for you all at st.george for half and hour.." "why were you at st.george? we're at st.patrick. anyway it doesn't matter now. bye." "bye.."
yea i admit. i was told to meet at st.patrick but i don't know how st.george manage to fight its way into my head. but i called and called my brother- either 'the number you have dialed is currently unavailable' or no one picked up (thus leading me to think they left and wasn't bothered about me).
i was this close to st.patrick (just 1 stop west to spadina on the bloor line, and 3 stops south on the yonge-university-spadina line). boo. i bought a packet of rice at fairview mall, came home and delighted myself with some singaporean drama as i ate. now it's time for books. i'm hanging in there alright.. hanging there till the following wednesday.

white night
out of nowhere last night, a pile of snow was dumped on we, earthlings.

the white specks of snow caught my eye and i swiftly whipped out a camera..

fifteen minutes later, this is how the snow covers up the ground.

blurred vision.

pools of snow and ice.
i captured these pictures as i was sitting by the window on my bed with a textbook on my lap. yes, i was studying. trying to, at least. i think i'm close to screwing myself. i seem to be taking this finals lightly.. i better go now. bless me.

antm: cycle 5
NICOLE is america's next top model!
weee.. the one i support wins! thank god history didn't repeat itself (cycle 4 i was rooting for kahlen who sadly lost out to naima). the first runner-up, nik, really provided some tough competition for nicole. i know many people are sad/frustrated that nik lost, but i know nik will do well too..
lovely. go team nicole!

star-shows
the last sunday, star awards 2005 was shown in singapore. well, i haven't watched the event since 4 years back when mediaworks exploded into the television industry of singapore (yes, i'm a supporter of mediaworks' channel u, and also mediacorp's channel 5). but now with the merge, i really wanted to watch star awards to see the artistes of the now-defunct channel u (like kym ng, quan yifeng, bryan wong) heat the competition up..
i was hoping someone would record it and upload to the web so that i can download it. chances seemed slim as i went on a forum pleading for help. and unexpectedly, when i checked the thread yesterday, someone replied with the file! wippy! thank you so much!
it really sucks for the ex-mediaworks artistes, i think. will they face discrimination and be the outcast of the whole gang of mediacorp artistes? well i think the awards show tried not to portray it this way as quan yifeng and bryan wong won 2 awards each, but kym ng none! booo.. the awards show was kind of lame, as usual. i mean all the "xie xie him, xie xie her", "this award is not just for me, but all of us", "i never thought i would win", etc etc.. i guess i will say that same thing if i'm on a stage receiving an award, but from an audience perspective now, it IS cheesy. i watched it for the sake of watching.
loved the first series of city beat, where they had kym ng, bryan wong, lisa ng, and sharon au as hosts. now lina ng is no longer in mediacorp and sharon au is in japan. i was still hoping for a reunion. :(
and i realised that singapore is having so many reality competition shows. like superstar, star idol, superhost. eeewwk. and then there also is the star search? what's the difference with the last 3? isn't it just finding for an artiste who can act and host. why separate them and have useless shows where screaming, crazy fans vote just because they think a competitor is good looking or 'good' in acting/hosting according to their standards and not the professional standard. bleh..
well here's hoping to a more interesting year ahead for singapore's tv entertainment industry.. just stop signing an overload of untalented young wannabes and get them to act. i will cringe..

the magic schoolbus
on my way home from collecting my marked geography assignment, the public bus i took was filled with about 20 young kids of 7-9 years old and their teachers. it made me feel like i was on a schoolbus.
the chatters, pushing and pulling of the children, the teachers screaming their lungs out to maintain order and less noise.. everytime the bus made a turn, i could hear 'aaaahhh's and 'ooooo's. finally the bus-driver stopped in front of the school just for them, and when all of them alighted, the bus was near-empty. and then i could hear the children shouting 'thank you mr.bus-driver'.. and i heard 'aawwww' in my head.
i've never taken the schoolbus to school before, besides for excursions. love taking the bus with friends- like on the chartered bus for a geography school-trip in secondary 2 to malaysia (me, dylan, pamy, shinye and yisan sat at the back-corner of the bus filled with other amksians), or a public bus to pasir ris for our class chalet, etc etc.. just chilling, chatting or playing cards.
and now i keep hearing the song of 'the magic schoolbus' cartoon, where a group of students with their quirky teacher and her pet iguana go on adventures on the multi-purpose yellow bus that changes to a rocket, a submarine, or shrinks, and many others. come on, it's the magic schoolbus..

i have to study. i have to study. i have to study. i have to study.
i have to study. i have to study. i have to study. i have to study.
sorry, i'm stressing my brain into mug-mode. (:

holiday movie guide
i just watched derailed, starring jennifer aniston and clive owen. the reviews by critics were not that good, but nevertheless i wanted to watch it (mainly because it's jennifer aniston on the big-screen since friends!). i'm glad i watched it; i mean the plot twist was kind of surprising even though it could be predicted, and also jennifer aniston did kind of a good job in portraying her character, sultry lucinda harris.
okay, first for those who doesn't know the storyline.. clive owen plays charles shyne, a financial consultant, who meets jennifer aniston's character on a train. things heat up between them, and they find themselves in a hotel room. but wait, both are married and have a daughter each. well anyway they went on with their affair, and BAM! in comes this crook who blackmails them. what luck. there's more to it though.. won't reveal too much. just have to say if you're into action/thriller, and is an aniston fan, go catch it.
i know i shouldn't be writing this, but it's so hard to ignore the fact that there are so many good movies coming out this holiday season. i will be caught in my final exams then, but after i'm done, it will be a movie-craze for me. these are some shows i just have to watch..
aeon flux
starring charlize theron, this is a futuristic film where virus is rampage in the world and there's only one safe city left. but a resistance movement are wanting to expose the deception with the help of sleek, ready-to-kill assasinator, aeon flux. opens dec 2.
i kind of like futuristic films. maybe it's the thought-provoking effects that it has on my brain when i try to visualise the future world. cool. charlize theron looks like she can do some serious damage to anyone who messes with her.
the chronicles of narnia: the lion, the witch and the wardrobe
lord-of-the-rings-like movie based on the book by c.s. lewis. a group of children enter a wardrobe to the magical narnia, and teams up with aslan, the lion king, to battle the evil white witch. opens dec 9.
another fantasy movie that will spawn more movies since the chronicles of narnia is a 7-book novel. since i love lord of the rings and harry potter, i guess this will definitely find its place in my 'favourite movies' list.
the family stone
the eldest son of the stone family brings home his uptight NY girlfriend to meet his family for the holidays. things go haywire as everyone doesn't get along as well as expected. starring sarah jessica parker, claire danes, rachel mcadams, luke wilson and more. opens dec 16.
the list of cast members is impressive. with SJP (what else but sex and the city), claire danes (one of my favourite actress in movies like romeo+juliet, little women, stage beauty, shopgirl), and rachel mcadams (canadian star who appeared in movies like mean girls, the notebook, red eye), how can i not watch this movie? plus from watching the trailer, it seems funny.
memoirs of a geisha
from the acclaimed director of chicago, this film is also based on a best-seller novel about the life of a young japanese girl who is sold to a geisha house. zhang ziyi, michelle yeoh, gong li stars. opens dec 23.
there's all the more reason to support asian actors (especially since michelle yeoh was born malaysia!) in hollywood films, of course besides the fact that this movie is interesting. from the poster itself, i get the tingle seeing those blue eyes, red lips and white skin.
hoodwinked
an animation of the modernised, law-and-order version of little red riding hood. voices of anne hathaway as red riding hood, and glenn close as granny. opens dec 23.
karate-kicking little red riding hood + sarcastic wolf + clumsy woodsman + crime investigation? LOL, need i say more?
so here's to me in being successful in my final exams and watching all the nice movies to come. and to a good weekend.. better go mug now. cheers!

go gold
in the school library waiting for my next lecture to start again soon. and in the meantime, i'm checking out the latest news on the SEA Games in manila. i'm impressed with joscelin yeo and a few other atheletes (those of swimming, table tennis and gymnastics).. here's wishing singpore in meeting it's 35-gold target in this games.
go Team Singapore!
