star-shows

the last sunday, star awards 2005 was shown in singapore. well, i haven't watched the event since 4 years back when mediaworks exploded into the television industry of singapore (yes, i'm a supporter of mediaworks' channel u, and also mediacorp's channel 5). but now with the merge, i really wanted to watch star awards to see the artistes of the now-defunct channel u (like kym ng, quan yifeng, bryan wong) heat the competition up..

i was hoping someone would record it and upload to the web so that i can download it. chances seemed slim as i went on a forum pleading for help. and unexpectedly, when i checked the thread yesterday, someone replied with the file! wippy! thank you so much!

it really sucks for the ex-mediaworks artistes, i think. will they face discrimination and be the outcast of the whole gang of mediacorp artistes? well i think the awards show tried not to portray it this way as quan yifeng and bryan wong won 2 awards each, but kym ng none! booo.. the awards show was kind of lame, as usual. i mean all the "xie xie him, xie xie her", "this award is not just for me, but all of us", "i never thought i would win", etc etc.. i guess i will say that same thing if i'm on a stage receiving an award, but from an audience perspective now, it IS cheesy. i watched it for the sake of watching.

loved the first series of city beat, where they had kym ng, bryan wong, lisa ng, and sharon au as hosts. now lina ng is no longer in mediacorp and sharon au is in japan. i was still hoping for a reunion. :(

and i realised that singapore is having so many reality competition shows. like superstar, star idol, superhost. eeewwk. and then there also is the star search? what's the difference with the last 3? isn't it just finding for an artiste who can act and host. why separate them and have useless shows where screaming, crazy fans vote just because they think a competitor is good looking or 'good' in acting/hosting according to their standards and not the professional standard. bleh..

well here's hoping to a more interesting year ahead for singapore's tv entertainment industry.. just stop signing an overload of untalented young wannabes and get them to act. i will cringe..
